There's no shortage of legends in the construction trades industry. People who have become masters of their craft, who have built careers that have spanned decades.

So how did they get through it? How did they become so successful? For many, it was because they had somewhere to turn for guidance, support, and inspiration. A like-minded mentor who had faced the same challenges and obstacles before them. But not everyone has someone like that in their working life.

And that's what we're creating with Built Different.

But Built Different is so much more than that. It's where you can meet like-minded people on a similar journey to you. It's Australia's first dedicated community to young apprentices and trades in the residential building industry.

HIA has been proudly representing the Australian housing industry for over seventy-five years. Throughout HIA’s long history we’ve employed over 20,000 apprentices for our members.

Our vision remains the same, to be an association that speaks with a united voice on industry issues and creating real change.

From sole traders to multi-nationals, our members construct over 85% of the nation’s new building stock.

This extensive experience managing apprentices, combined with the unique needs of today’s generations, has resulted in a project aimed at bringing together and supporting the youth of the industry; Built Different – an initiative powered by HIA.

Built Different offers educational resources, support and a sense of community for young people wanting to get ahead in the construction industry.

Through podcasts, digital resources, social media content and an interactive community, Built Different is a one-stop-shop for the next generation of the residential building and construction industry.
